Introduction to Reservoir Simulation

Candidates:

Geoscientists and petroleum engineers involved in reservoir simulation.

Summary:

The course is designed to give participants a basic understanding of reservoir simulation techniques and simulators. It presents methods for preparation of data for input into a reservoir simulator to run a model and perform history matching of actual production data and prediction. Specific examples will be detailed and personal work will allow the participants to become familiar with reservoir simulation.

Contents:

  • Modeling concepts and flow simulation philosophy
  • Single-phase, miscible and immiscible flow
  • Description of reservoir simulator: black-oil compositional, fractured systems and streamline simulation
  • Data collection & selection: geological model, petrophysics, PVT and production data
  • Reservoir simulation methodology: introduction to history matching and prediction case
  • Reservoir simulation and exploitation strategies
  • Field cases
